187.   Duties and powers of medical inspectors

  1.  

    (1)   A medical inspector appointed under section 186 shall have power at all reasonable times to inspect the general register referred to in section 209.

  1.  

    (2)   It shall be the duty of a medical inspector to investigate and report on—

    1.  

      (a)     any case of death or injury caused by exposure to fumes or other noxious substances in an industrial establishment, or due to any other special cause specified in instructions of the Minister as requiring investigation;

    1.  

      (b)     any case of death or injury which the Department of Labour, in pursuance of any general or special instructions of the Minister, may refer to the medical inspector for that purpose; and

    1.  

      (c)     any case of disease of which he or she receives notice under this Part.

  1.  

    (3)   A medical inspector, for the purpose of any investigation under this section, shall have all the powers of an authorized officer under this Part.

    (4)   The Minister may make Regulations to regulate—

    1.  

      (a)     the duties of medical inspectors; and

    1.  

      (b)     any special inquiry, examination or investigation held or performed by medical inspectors under instructions or directions of the Minister.
