A person who—
(a) makes a report to the Police about the alleged commission of a crime which he or she has reasonable cause to believe is false; or
(b) knowingly makes to the Police a false report tending to show that a crime has been committed or to give rise to apprehension for the safety of any person or property or tending to show that he or she has information material to any police inquiry,
commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $1,000 or to imprisonment for one year.
