CHAPTER FIRST
PRELIMINARY PROVISIONS

    1875.   Whoever incurs a personal obligation, renders liable for its fulfilment all his or her property, movable and immovable, present and future, except such as is specially exempted from seizure.

    1876.   The property of a debtor is the common security of his or her creditors, and in the absence of any cause of preference, its proceeds are shared by them proportionately to the amount of their debts.

    1877.   The legal causes of preference are privileges and hypothecs.
