37.   Leaving Certificate

  1.  

    (1)   Any station officer and rank below proceeding on leave other than liberty or such leave shall be provided with a leave certificate signed by the Chief Fire Officer on which shall be specified the period for which such leave is granted. A leave certificate must be produced when the holder thereof is called upon to do so by a subordinate officer of equivalent or same in rank.

    (2)   The holder of a leave certificate on his or her return from leave shall return it to the Senior Officer in charge of the Fire Station for reference.

    (3)   Any member as mentioned in subregulation (1) who has been on continuous sick leave for 3 months shall be required to submit himself or herself for examination by a medical board consisting of not less than 2 government medical officers.

    (4)   On the recommendation of the medical board any member aforesaid on whose case the medical board certifies that there is reasonable prospect of eventual recovery, may be granted sick leave with full pay up to a maximum period including any period of sick leave granted under subregulations (1) and (2) of this regulation and not exceeding 6 months in any year.

However, if illness or incapacity is due to any injury or illness suffered by the member aforesaid in the actual discharge of his or her duties and without his or her own default and is on account of circumstances specially attributable to the nature of his or her duties, he or she shall be entitled to be granted further sick leave with full pay on the recommendation of the Chief Fire Officer with the approval of the Governor General.
