3.   Duties of the Chief Fire Officer

It is the duty of the Chief Fire Officer in exercise of the command, superintendence efficient administration and government of the Fire Service—

  1.  

    (a)     to carry out all necessary measures to ensure the proper discipline of the Fire Service;

  1.  

    (b)     to see that all fire fighting equipment is kept in good order and thorough repair and employed to the best efficiency of the Fire Service;

  1.  

    (c)     to inform himself or herself of the latest technique of every aspect of fire prevention and control and to advise the Minister in respect of such techniques;

  1.  

    (d)     to take cognisance of, initiate or cause to be initiated prosecutions either in his or her, a gazetted officer or a subordinate officer's name, with respect to offences under the Act, the Industrial and Commercial Buildings Fire Safety Act or any other enactment for the prevention and control of fire;

  1.  

    (e)     to perform all other such duties as may have been assigned under the Act or any other enactment for the prevention and control of fire.
