9.   Application for registration

  1.  

    (1)   A society shall not commence or continue business unless it is registered in accordance with this Act.

  1.  

    (2)   Subject to subsection (3) an application for registration under this Act must be submitted to the Registrar in the prescribed form and in such manner as he or she determines.

    (3)   An application for registration under this Act must be signed by at least—

    1.  

      (a)     fifty persons in the case of a Credit Union;

    1.  

      (b)     five persons in the case of a Workers Society;

    1.  

      (c)     twenty-five persons in the case of a Consumer Society;

    1.  

      (d)     ten persons in the case of a Housing Society;

    1.  

      (e)     ten persons in the case of an Agricultural Society; and

    1.  

      (f)     ten persons in the case of other societies not specified in paragraphs (a) to (e).

  1.  

    (4)   An application must be accompanied by—

    1.  

      (a)     three copies of the proposed by-laws of the society;

    1.  

      (b)     the prescribed application fee; and

    1.  

      (c)     such other information in respect of the society as the Registrar requires.
