5.   False medical certificate

  1.  

    (1)   Any person not being a medical officer in the service of the Government who knowingly and wilfully signs any certificate under this Act in which he or she is described as such medical officer shall be guilty of a misdemeanour, and on conviction thereof before the High Court may be fined in any sum not exceeding $480 and may also if the said High Court so think fit be imprisoned with or without hard labour for any term not exceeding one year.

    (2)   Any medical officer in the service of the Government who knowingly and wilfully in any certificate under this Act falsely states or falsely certifies any thing shall be guilty of a misdemeanour, and on conviction thereof before the High Court may be fined in any sum not exceeding $240 and may also if the said High Court so think fit be imprisoned with or without hard labour for any term not exceeding one year.
