16.   Qualification for admission to the Register of Midwives

  1.  

    (1)   The names of all persons who are registered as midwives under the Medical Registration Act immediately prior to the commencement of this Act shall be entered on the Register of Midwives established under this Part without the need for application on the part of such persons; and pending the entry of their names on the Register of Midwives, all such persons are considered to be duly registered under this Act.

    (2)   Any person who completes a course of training in a recognised place of training and has passed the examinations prescribed by the Council and who establishes to its satisfaction that he or she is a fit and proper person to be entered on the Register of Midwives, upon making application to the Council, and upon compliance with the requirements of this Act, is entitled to be registered.
