(1) Despite the provisions of any other law, it is lawful for the Council to issue a licence, in the form set out in Schedule 1, to any person who is a qualified nurse practitioner and who has applied in writing to the Council for such a licence.
(2) Any application for a licence under this section shall be accompanied by evidence satisfactory to the Council of the applicant's qualification as a nurse practitioner.
(3) For the purposes of this section, a person is qualified to be licensed as a nurse practitioner, who—
(a) is a registered nurse;
(b) has completed a course of training for nurse practitioners approved by the Council; and
(c) has passed the prescribed examinations.
(4) A licence may only be issued under this section to those qualified persons for the purpose of practising nursing as a nurse practitioner and shall be of a year's duration renewable annually on application thereafter, if the nurse practitioner meets the criteria set by the Council prior to the renewal of the licence.
(5) A nurse practitioner licensed under this section shall be allowed to treat those diseases listed in Schedule 2, and in the manner specified in the Saint Lucia Family Nurse Practitioner's Protocol.
(6) In performing their duties under subsection (5) all nurse practitioners shall perform such duties under the general supervision of a senior registered nurse practitioner or a registered medical practitioner.
(7) Every nurse practitioner licensed under this section is allowed to prescribe only those drugs included in the Saint Lucia Family Nurse Practitioners' Formulary or are classified in Schedule 3.
(8) All medical prescriptions from a nurse practitioner shall be dispensed at any licensed institution by a registered pharmacist.
