7.   Powers of the coroner

  1.  

    (1)   When an unnatural death is reported to or comes to the knowledge of a coroner, he or she shall—

    1.  

      (a)     issue an order to take possession of the body;

    1.  

      (b)     view the body if he or she considers it expedient so to do;

    1.  

      (c)     make any further investigation required to determine whether or not an inquest is necessary;

    1.  

      (d)     issue a warrant for the burial of the body if, following an investigation he or she is satisfied as to the cause of death and that an inquest is not necessary.

    (2)   The provisions of section 9(3) shall apply with any necessary modifications in every case where the coroner dispenses with an inquest under this section.
