(1) When an unnatural death is reported to or comes to the knowledge of a coroner, he or she shall cause an investigation to be made as to the cause of death and if necessary, hold an inquest.
(2) At every inquest, the coroner shall inquire into when, where and by what manner the deceased person came to his or her death and also whether any person is criminally responsible in the cause of the death.
