A coroner or a person acting on his or her behalf, is not liable for damages caused by anything done or not done by him or her in the performance of his or her duties or in respect of a matter in which he or she lacked or exceeded his or her jurisdiction unless it is proved that he or she acted in bad faith or without reasonable and probable cause.
