8.   Post mortem examination and analysis

  1.  

    (1)   At any time during an investigation or inquest, a coroner may issue an order for—

    1.  

      (a)     a post mortem examination, with or without dissection of the body;

    1.  

      (b)     an analysis of the blood, urine or contents of the stomach and intestines;

    1.  

      (c)     any other examination or analysis that the coroner considers the circumstances warrant.

    (2)   The medical practitioner who performs the post mortem examination shall promptly report his or her findings in writing to the coroner and the specially qualified person who performs any other examination or analysis shall promptly report his or her findings in writing to the coroner and to the medical practitioner who carried out the post mortem examination.

    (3)   A report made under this Act shall be admissible as evidence and shall be prima facie evidence of the facts stated therein.
