9.   Establishment of Education Advisory Board

  1.  

    (1)   The Minister shall establish a body to be called the Education Advisory Board.

  1.  

    (2)   The Education Advisory Board shall consist of at least 10 members including—

    1.  

      (a)     the principal of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College;

    1.  

      (b)     four members nominated by the Minister in his or her discretion from among persons representing—

      1.  

        (i)     expert educational opinion,

      1.  

        (ii)     parent teacher associations, and

      1.  

        (iii)     technical, vocational or business education;

    1.  

      (c)     one representative nominated by the association of school principals, if one exists;

    1.  

      (d)     one representative nominated by the duly recognized organisations representing teachers;

    1.  

      (e)     one representative nominated by the National Students Council or other representative body of students;

    1.  

      (f)     one representative nominated by religious organisations; and

    1.  

      (g)     one representative nominated by the business and professional community.

  1.  

    (3)   The representatives nominated by the Minister and the organisations specified in subsection (2)(b), (2)(c), (2)(d), (2)(f) and (2)(g) shall be appointed by the Minister by instrument in writing with the approval of Cabinet.

  1.  

    (4)   The Education Advisory Board shall appoint a chairperson and a vice-chairperson from among its members.

  1.  

    (5)   The appointment of a member of the Education Advisory Board is for a period not exceeding 2 years, but the member is eligible for reappointment.

  1.  

    (6)   Schedule 1 applies in respect of the constitution and procedure of the Education Advisory Board.
