(1) Subject to subsection (2), where a parent-teacher association does not exist, the principal, in consultation with his or her staff, may establish a school committee comprising such number of parents, teachers and members of the community as the principal determines.
(2) A school committee shall not come into existence without the written approval of the Chief Education Officer.
(3) A school committee shall be an advisory committee to the school for which it is established.
(4) A school committee shall—
(a) advise the school administration where requested by the principal on any matter relating to the school;
(b) perform any duty or function referred to it by the Chief Education Officer; and
(c) actively pursue the formation of a parent-teacher association.
(5) On the formation of a parent-teacher association, the principal shall dissolve the school committee.
