78.   Illicit payments

An officer of a society or branch shall not, either in addition to or in substitution for the remuneration prescribed under this Act or authorised by the rules of the society, or branch, receive from any other person any gift, bonus, commission, or benefit, for or in connection with any benefit paid or any loan made by the society or branch, and any person paying or accepting any such gift, bonus, commission, or benefit, is liable, on summary conviction, to a fine of $240, and, in default of payment, to be imprisoned for 6 months, and the person accepting such gift, bonus, commission, or benefit, shall as and when directed by the Court by whom he or she is convicted, pay over to the society or branch the amount or value of such gift, bonus, commission, or benefit, and in default of such payment is liable to be imprisoned for 6 months.
