(1) If it appears to an inspector that dangerous conditions in regard to escape in case of fire exist in an industrial or commercial building he or she may give notice of this in writing to the Chief Fire Officer and it is the duty of the Chief Fire Officer to examine that building, and he or she may by notice in writing require the owner to make such alterations as specified in the notice within such period, as may be specified in the notice.
(2) Where notice is given to an owner under subsection (1) he or she shall subject to the provisions of section 15 within the time specified in the notice carry out the alterations required by the notice, and upon their being carried out the Chief Fire Officer shall amend the certificate or issue a new certificate and if the alterations are not carried out, the Chief Fire Officer shall without prejudice to the taking of proceedings cancel the certificate.
(3) Where notice is given by an inspector to the Chief Fire Officer under this section the Chief Fire Officer shall inform the inspector.
