2.   Interpretation

  1.  

    (1)   In this Act—

certificate” includes an amended certificate;

Chief Fire Officer” means the Chief Fire Officer appointed under section 3 of the Fire Service Act;

industrial and commercial buildings” means any building or part thereof or a place in respect of which order may be made by the Minister under this Act;

inspector” means a member of the Fire Service not below the rank of station officer appointed under section 3;

maintained” means maintained in an efficient state in efficient working order, and in good repair;

Minister” means the Minister charged with the responsibility of labour;

owner” includes occupier;

register” means the register required to be kept under section 18.

    (2)   For the purposes of this Act a person is employed in an industrial or commercial building where he or she is in that building having been contracted hired or engaged to perform work of any kind in that building irrespective of the length of time spent in that building in connection with such work and whether or not wages are paid.

    (3)   For the purposes of this Act a building is constructed, extended or converted for use as an industrial building before any date, if the construction, extension or conversion was begun before that date.
