8.   Certificate of Chief Fire Officer

  1.  

    (1)   Where the Chief Fire Officer after the inspection as provided by section 7 on being satisfied that an industrial or commercial building is provided with such means of escape as is mentioned in subsection 5 and any regulations made under this Act he or she shall grant a certificate.

    (2)   Where the Chief Fire Officer after the inspector as provided by section 7 is not satisfied that an industrial or commercial building is not provided with such means of escape as is mentioned in subsection 5 he or she shall by notice inform the applicant that he or she will not grant the certificate unless specified alterations are made. The notice shall specify the alterations and the time (or where further time has been allowed by the Chief Fire Officer) or such extended time within which such alterations are to be carried out.

    (3)   The owner shall within the time specified in the notice or such extended time carry out the alterations required by the notice and the Chief Fire Officer on being satisfied that the alterations have been carried out shall grant a certificate.

    (4)   Where the alterations are not carried out, a certificate is considered to have been refused at the expiration of the time specified in the notice or such further time as the Chief Fire Officer may have allowed.
