4.   Obligation on parent to have newborn child vaccinated

  1.  

    (1)   The parent of every child born in Saint Lucia shall, within 3 months after the birth of such child, or within 3 months after receiving into custody such child, take it or cause it to be taken to the medical officer of the medical district to which such child resides, to be vaccinated according to the provisions of this Act, or shall, within that period, cause such child to be so vaccinated by any other public vaccinator. However, if, when any such child is taken to the medical officer within the period, such medical officer has not any vaccine lymph or is otherwise unable to vaccinate the child, then and in every such case the parent of the child shall take it or cause it to be taken to the medical officer within such time thereafter, and at the place, as such medical officer may appoint.

    (2)   The medical officer to whom the child is brought is required, with all reasonable despatch, subject to the conditions mentioned below, to vaccinate such child.
