21.   Making false statement to House or committee an offence

A person who in the course of giving evidence before the House or a committee wilfully makes a statement material to the subject of the enquiry of the House or committee knowing the statement to be false or not believing it to be true—

  1.  

    (a)     if the statement was made on oath, commits a felony and on conviction on indictment is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 7 years or to a fine, or to both such imprisonment and fine;

    (b)     if the statement was made otherwise than on oath, commits an offence and is liable on conviction by a court of summary jurisdiction to a fine not exceeding $500 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or to both such fine and imprisonment.
