32.   Application for legal aid

  1.  

    (1)   In order to obtain legal aid, a person may, in accordance with subsection (2), apply to the Authority for legal aid.

    (2)   An application under subsection (1) shall be submitted to the Authority in the prescribed form and shall be accompanied by—

    1.  

      (a)     an application fee of one dollar or such other fee as may be prescribed; and

    1.  

      (b)     such information or particulars as may be prescribed or required by the Authority.

    (3)   A person shall not—

    1.  

      (a)     in relation to any application submitted under this section; or

    1.  

      (b)     in relation to any information or particulars that the person is required to furnish under this section,

  1.  

    make any representation or statement that the person knows is false or misleading in a material particular.

  1.  

    (4)   A person who contravenes subsection (3) commits an offence and on summary conviction is liable to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or to both.
