2.   Interpretation

In this Act—

agents” means the Superintendent Minister and 2 Circuit Stewards of the Methodist Church of Saint Lucia appointed to act on behalf of the Corporation for the purposes of this Act;

ancillary bodies” in relation to the Church, to the Parent Church, or to the Missionary Society, means, schools, colleges, seminaries, hospitals, bookshops, charities, associations, institutions and other organizations (other than local bodies) subsidiary or ancillary to or connected with the Church, the Parent Church or the Missionary Society respectively, and it is hereby declared that the provisions of this Act applicable to any such subsidiary or ancillary bodies which are connected with other churches or organizations as well as with the Church, the Parent Church or the Missionary Society shall apply to such subsidiary or ancillary bodies only to the extent of the interest therein of the Church, the Parent Church or the Missionary Society;

British Conference” means the governing body of the Parent Church;

Church” means the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas constituted and established as before recited, but “the church” and “churches,” have their general meanings;

Conference” means the governing body of the Church and where the context so requires includes the Foundation Conference;

Corporation” means the M.C.C.A. Trust Corporation;

Deed of Church Order” means a Deed dated the 18 day of May 1967 and executed by the Reverend Hugh B. Sherlock and others which declared the establishment of the Church and defined the constitution thereof;

Foundation Conference” means the conference held by representatives of the Parent Church and of certain Methodist synods in the Caribbean and the Americas for the purpose of settling and adopting the Deed of Church Order;

land” or “lands” includes land and buildings of any tenure and any interest therein or in the proceeds of sale thereof;

local bodies” in relation to the Church or the Parent Church means districts, circuits and societies or and other local bodies as the work of the Church or the Parent Church may be ordered in for the time being, and the synods and other governing bodies thereof;

Methodist Missionary Society” is also known and called Methodist Church Overseas Division;

Missionary Society” means the Methodist Missionary Society of 25 Marylebone Road, London, N.W.I England, being the Overseas Department or Division of the Parent Church;

Model Trusts” means the model trusts referred to in section 5;

Parent Church” means the Methodist Church of Great Britain formed on the 20 day of September 1932 (upon the execution that date in England of a Deed of Union by John Scott Lidgett and others) through the Union Weslyan Methodist Church, the Primitive Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church;

property” means property of every description whether real or personal, movable or immovable and includes money and choses in action.
