2. Interpretation
In this Act—
“appropriate authority” means the Public Service Commission as established under section 76 of the Constitution of Saint Lucia;
“Board” means the Board of Management constituted under section 4;
“designated hospital” means a hospital in respect of which an order has been made under section 3;
“financial year” means the calendar year except that the first financial year shall be the period commencing with the commencement of this Act and ending with such day as shall be fixed by the Minister;
“fees” means all fees payable to any hospital in respect of any person for medical, surgical and other services performed at any hospital;
“hospital” means any institution established and maintained out of public funds for the admission and treatment of the sick and injured and includes a mental hospital;
“mental hospital” means mental hospital under section 2 of the Mental Hospitals Act;
“Minister” means the member of the Cabinet to whom the responsibility for health is assigned and the expression Ministry shall be construed accordingly;
“Permanent Secretary” means the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry responsible for Health.
