3.   Acquisition of citizenship on the appointed date

  1.  

    (1)   A person shall become a citizen on the appointed date if prior to that date he or she was—

    1.  

      (a)     a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies born in Saint Lucia;

    1.  

      (b)     a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies under the British Nationality Act, 1948 of the United Kingdom having been naturalised in Saint Lucia as such a citizen before that Act came into force;

    1.  

      (c)     a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies having been naturalised or registered while resident in Saint Lucia under the British Nationality Act, 1948 of the United Kingdom;

      (d)     he or she was a Commonwealth citizen who held a British passport issued in the State of Saint Lucia and was ordinarily resident in Saint Lucia for a period of 7 years immediately preceding the appointed date.

    (2)   A person born outside of Saint Lucia shall become a citizen on the appointed date, if prior to that date his or her father or mother becomes or would but for his or her death or renunciation of the citizenship of the United Kingdom and Colonies have become a citizen by virtue of subsection (1).

    (3)   Every woman who having been married to a man who becomes or who but for his death or the renunciation of his citizenship of the United Kingdom and Colonies would have become a citizen on the appointed date by virtue of this section shall become a citizen on the appointed date.
