18. Canals kept in repair by owners
If any canal or conduit for the conveyance of water shall run along or across a road, the parts of such road crossed or intersected by such canal or conduit shall be repaired and kept in repair to the satisfaction of the Authority at the sole cost of the owner, and the part of such canal or conduit which runs along such road shall be embanked, maintained, and repaired by the owner as aforesaid to the satisfaction of the Authority; and if the owner shall fail after 7 days' notice given by the Authority to comply with the provisions of this section he or she commits an offence against this Act for every such case of non-compliance, and it shall be lawful for the Authority to execute the necessary work and to recover the cost thereof from the defaulting owner together with the penalty aforesaid.
