(1) In awarding compensation for injury or death under this Act, the Commission shall take into account any compensation awarded to the officer or his or her beneficiary including any payment gratuitously made by the State in respect of the same injury or death.
(2) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act, the Commission may stay the grant of an award or give an interim award pending the conclusion of any existing civil action.
