18. Inmates committed to custody
The Director and any persons in charge of lock-ups and legalised police cells are authorized and required to keep and detain all persons committed to their custody by any court, justice of the peace, coroner, or other public officer lawfully exercising civil or criminal jurisdiction, according to the terms of any writ, warrant or order by which that person has been committed, or until that person is discharged according to law.
