2.   Interpretation of terms

In this Act—

cattle” includes any horse, mare, gelding, colt or filly; any mule or ass; any bull, cow, ox, heifer, steer or calf; any ram, ewe, sheep or lamb; any goat or kid, and any swine;

business of a butcher” means any business having for its object the slaughter of cattle and sale of meat, whether carried on continuously or not or whether confined to the slaughter and sale of one animal or not, but shall not be intended to mean the slaughter of cattle and the disposal of the meat thereof on any estate or place where such animal has been accidentally killed or where, owing to any accident to any animal, such animal has been slaughtered to avoid the loss of its value;

designated officer” means a livestock officer or such other person appointed by the Director of Agricultural Services.
