8.   Compulsory retirement

  1.  

    (1)   The Governor General may require an officer to retire from the public service under the Government of Saint Lucia—

    1.  

      (a)     at any time after he or she attains the age of 55 years; or

    1.  

      (b)     in special cases, with the approval of the appropriate service commission, at any time after he or she attains the age of 50 years.

    (2)   Every teacher shall, unless the Governor General otherwise determines, retire at the age of 60 years.

  1.  

    However, in special cases, the Governor General may permit or require a teacher to retire at any time after the teacher has attained the age of 50 years.
