2. Interpretation

(1) In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires—
“authorised officer” means any person who may be appointed as such by the Governor General for the purposes of this Act;
“land” includes messuages, tenements and hereditaments, corporeal or incorporeal, and immovable property of every tenure or description, whatever may be the estate or interest therein;
“person interested” means every person claiming, or entitled to claim, compensation under this Act. However, a tenant by the month or at will is not a person interested for the purposes of this Act.

(2) For the avoidance of doubt it is hereby declared that the expression “public purpose” in this Act shall include the purpose of fulfilling any obligation of the Government, or of Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom, under any treaty or agreement made by the Government or by Her Majesty's Government, as the case may be, with the Government of any other country, territory or place, and any purpose pertaining or ancillary thereto.
