2.   Interpretation

In this Act—

“Board” means the Engineers Registration Board established by section 5;

“certificate” means a certificate granted under section 10;

“engineering” includes the doing of one or more acts of advising on, reporting on, designing of, supervising of or inspection of the construction of any of the works or operations or other matters set out in Schedule 1;

“Minister” means the Minister responsible for engineering matters;

“professional misconduct” means—

    (a)     any act or omission in the carrying out of work of an engineer that shows a reckless or deliberate disregard of or indifference to the rights or safety of others;

    (b)     the lack of adequate knowledge of, or continued neglect or failure to exercise the ordinary skills of an engineer;

    (c)     conviction of an indictable offence, but does not include any political offence committed outside Saint Lucia or any offence that does not affect the fitness of an engineer to practice his or her profession;

“register” means the register of engineers kept by the Registrar in accordance with section 6;

“registered engineer” means a person registered in accordance with the provisions of this Act;

“Registrar” means the Registrar of the High Court.
