Section II   The execution of writs of capias

    655.   If the writ of capias is addressed to the Sheriff's officer who is charged with it, he or she arrests the defendant and delivers him or her over, together with the writ, to the Sheriff, who thereupon becomes responsible.

    656.   If the writ of capias is addressed to the Sheriff he or she is then bound to execute it or to cause it to be executed by his or her officers.

    657.   The Sheriff is bound to keep the defendant in the Royal gaol, until the latter gives security or is discharged as hereinafter provided. But no person can be detained in the Royal gaol in virtue of a writ of capias for a longer period than one year.
