Lorraine Bernadine Williams (nee Husbands)

Mrs. Lorraine Bernadine Williams holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law with Second class honors from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus and a Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad.  She was called to the Bar of Saint Lucia in 1983.  In May 1992, Mrs. Lorraine B Williams was appointed to the Senate, and was sworn in as Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs.  She was the first female and the youngest person (at age thirty-three) to hold that position within CARICOM. 

During her tenure as Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Mrs. Williams successfully piloted several significant bills through Parliament including the Family Court Act, the Domestic Violence Summary Proceedings Act and the Attachment of Earnings Legislation.  Mrs Williams was one of the catalyst behind the establishment of the Family Court and the Shelter for Battered Women.
