2. Interpretation
In this Act unless modified by the context—
“medical officer” means a Government medical officer whatever his or her official title or designation or duties for the time being may be;
“pauper” means a person who is not possessed of property or income who through prolonged illness, or chronic ailment or age or infirmity is unable to earn a living;
“medical aid” means medical attendance, medical advice, medical and surgical treatment and furnishing of medicine by the medical officer, or under his or her order by a Government dispenser;
“serious illness” means illness where immediate medical aid is imperatively required to avert serious consequences to the patient;
“worker” means any person whose income does not exceed $720 a year or who does not possess property of any kind worth more than $1200.
