7.   Secrecy

  1.  

    (1)   For the purposes of Article 22 of the Convention, the competent authority and any person employed in carrying out the provisions of or having any official duty under the Convention shall keep secret the documents and information, which may come into the possession or knowledge of the competent authority or person for the exchange of information under the Convention.

    (2)   The secrecy requirement under subsection (1) continues to apply to a person who ceases to be employed in carrying out the provisions of or having any official duty under the Convention.

    (3)   A person who fails to comply with the secrecy requirement under subsection (1) commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or a term of imprisonment not exceeding 2 years.
