8.   Offences and penalty

  1.  

    (1)   If any person acts in contravention of, or fails to comply with, any provision of this Act or any order made or condition imposed under this Act, he or she commits an offence.

    (2)   A person who, in reply to or in relation to any person lawfully acting in the execution of the provisions of this Act or any order made hereunder—

    1.  

      (a)     refuses to answer any questions reasonably put to him or her or to produce any document in his or her possession; or

    1.  

      (b)     makes or causes to be made any false statement or false representations; or

    1.  

      (c)     obstructs that person in the exercise of his or her powers or duties under this Act or regulations made under it,

  1.  

       commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding $1,000 or to imprisonment for 6 months.

  1.  

    (3)   A person, whether a citizen of Saint Lucia or not, who without lawful authority uses or has in his or her possession any forged, altered or irregular passport or other document commits an offence.

  1.  

    (4)   A person who contravenes subsection (3) is liable on summary conviction to a fine of not less than $10,000 nor more than $15,000 or to imprisonment for 5 years.
