5.   Administration of Authority

  1.  

    (1)   The Authority shall be administered by a Board which shall be appointed by Cabinet and shall consist of at least 3 but not more than 5 members including—

    1.  

      (a)     a chairperson who has at least 10 years experience in public or business administration and no criminal record; (Amended by Act 24 of 2019)

      (b)     one member who is a certified accountant with at least 8 years experience;

    1.  

      (c)     one member who has experience in law enforcement, criminal investigation, law or gaming.

  1.  

    (2)   Cabinet shall, in appointing a person to the Board, have regard to the person's character and antecedents, habits, associations and public reputation.

  1.  

    (3)   A member shall hold office for a period not exceeding 3 years, as Cabinet may direct, and shall be eligible for re-appointment.

  1.  

    (4)   Where a person ceases to be a member other than by the expiry of his or her term of appointment, Cabinet may appoint another member to replace that person for the remainder of his or her term.

    (4A)   A member whose term has expired continues to serve as a member until Cabinet appoints a person to replace that member. (Inserted by Act 24 of 2019)

    (5)   The Board shall, at its first meeting, appoint a deputy chairperson from among its members.

  1.  

    (6)   The chairperson or, in his or her absence, the deputy chairperson shall preside over meetings of the Board.

    (7)   Cabinet may at any time revoke the appointment of any member based on just cause. (Amended by Act 24 of 2019)

    (8)   The appointment of a member and the termination of his or her appointment whether by death, resignation, expiry of time or otherwise shall be notified in the Gazette.
