6.   Functions of Councils

The functions of the Councils are—

  1.  

    (a)     to assist with the delivery of services to constituents;

  1.  

    (b)     to make recommendations to the Minister on programmes and projects which will benefit constituencies;

  1.  

    (c)     to carry out activities designated by the Ministry on behalf of the residents of a constituency;

  1.  

    (d)     to identify and prioritize the needs of constituencies based on supporting data;

  1.  

    (e)     to serve as the liaison between constituents and the Ministry;

  1.  

    (f)     to refer constituents requiring services in a constituency to the most appropriate Government agency that provides the services required;

  1.  

    (g)     to build relevant databases with respect to a constituency in collaboration with other government departments; and

  1.  

    (h)     to raise revenue in a manner provided by Parliament to finance the delivery of services to constituents.
