CHAPTER FIRST
REGISTERS OF CIVIL STATUS

    969.   Any register intended to record births, marriages, and deaths must be in duplicate, and before being used must be numbered upon the first and every subsequent leaf, and be sealed with the seal of the Court, the same being affixed upon the 2 extremities of a ribbon or other such fastening, passing through all the leaves of the register and secured inside of its cover, and upon the first leaf must be written an attestation under the signature of the Judge or Registrar, specifying the number of leaves contained in the register, the purpose for which it is intended and the date of such attestation.

    970.   A copy of the Book respecting Acts of Civil Status, in the Civil Code, and of the first, second, and third Chapters of the Book respecting Marriage in the same Code, furnished at the public expense, must be attached to the register, which is to remain in the hands of the minister of religion or status officer. The register must be bound in a substantial and durable manner.

    971.   One of the duplicate registers must be deposited with the Registrar of Civil Status, as required by article 32 of the Civil Code.

    972.     Any person who desires to have any register rectified must apply to the Registrar of Civil Status for a rectification, stating the error or omission of which he or she complains, or the change which he or she is seeking and praying that the register may be rectified accordingly.

         The application must be served upon the depositary of such register.

    973.     The Registrar of Civil Status may also order any person to be called who has an interest in the application, to be notified of the application.

    974.     The Registrar of Civil Status may issue an Order to rectify a record of civil status which shall be recorded and entered in the Register of Civil Status and any other record books kept by the Registrar of Civil Status to reflect the same.
