20.   Requisition by Registrar of information concerning death

  1.  

    (1)   Subject to section 21, where contrary to section 19, a death has not been registered or notice has not been given, the District Registrar may, at any time after the expiration of 48 hours and within 3 months from the day of the death or the finding of the dead body, by notice in writing require any person—

    1.  

      (a)     to give information concerning the death;

    1.  

      (b)     to attend personally at the District Registrar's office, or at any other place appointed by the District Registrar within his or her district, within such time, not less than 7 days after the receipt of the notice nor more than 6 months after the death or finding of the dead body as may be specified in the notice; and

      (c)     to give the information to the best of the person's knowledge and belief,

and it is the duty of the person, unless the death is registered before the expiration of the time specified in the notice, to comply with the requirement.

    (2)   Subject to section 22, a person who fails to comply with subsection (1) commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding $2,500.
